i fell in love again...drove to chicago!

what a great weekend. i am definitely not a big city kind of girl, but i do enjoy going to chicago! my roommate had given me detroit redwing/chicago blackhawk tickets for christmas/my birthday and when we ordered them, we didn't really realize that the game was on easter. whoops! oh well. we still had a great time!

of course what would be a trip to chicago, without a stop at ikea?! holly and i drooled over the gigantic bookshelves. not that we don't have enough books in our apartment already, but we can dream of someday having a library like the one in beauty and the beast! ;)

after our time at ikea, our next stop was downtown. our friend stephanie came and met us for the day before she headed to her aunt & uncle's for easter. here i am with stephanie and holly in front of the art institute of chicago.

our friend jennifer also came with us for the weekend. jennifer is on my staff team here in madison, but she went to college at the school of the art institute of chicago. she was so excited to be able to show us around her city and show us her school and the museum at the art institute. it was so great having our own personal tour guide and artist! :) plus it was fun to see how excited jennifer got being back in a place where the Lord really changed her and used her!
there were just too many pictures for me to post here from our trip, particularly of the art institute, but i thought i would put up at least one. it is hard to pick a favorite piece, but monet is always a favorite and it was so fun to see some of the water lilies up close!

gotta love the chicago city pictures...

we were lucky enough to have a friend who lives in downtown that we were able to stay with. mary (on the right) lives right near the new trump tower and took us to a great italian place for dinner!

the next day (easter!) jennifer and i went to church with mary. catholic church on easter sunday in downtown chicago is quite the experience. not being super familiar with all the mass traditions, it was an interesting experience. plus it was super crazy since the church was packed and we ended up in the school gym for mass! the line for church wound around the block! after church jennifer and mary headed to brunch with some friends and holly and i got ready to go to the redwings hockey game! holly's brother travis came up from indiana to go to the game with us too. it was so fun to see him and spend an afternoon with him. here holly and i are excited for our first "L" ride. i had been on the subway part before, but this time we were actually going to be on the famous elevated part. :)

finally i got to see my favorite redwings live and in person! so fun. below are a couple of my favorite players, henrik zetterberg, pavel datsyuk, and tomas holmstrom. it was a little strange being surrounded by blackhawk fans and still cheering for my wings, but i did so unashamedly, despite the fact that they lost. but its okay. they are still favored to win the stanley cup again!

here's travis and holly enjoying the game.

thanks holly for a great present! i loved seeing the game!

we had one last stop we had to make before leaving chicago. jennifer had to get us some real chicago style pizza. so off to giordanos we went to enjoy all the cheesy goodness of it.

one last fun surprise was that we sat in a booth with bobby hull's name on it! bobby hull is a famous nhl player from the 60s, whose son brett hull i saw play for the st. louis blues before he ended up playing for the detroit redwings! ;)

it was a great weekend, and i can't wait to go back again. of course, the next redwings game i see, i want to be in joe louis arena in detroit. how fun would it be to be surrounded by other wings fans! ;)
