this week's sermon at church was a good one. we've been going through a series on different prayers from the Bible and this week was a prayer from David. when i first thought about a prayer from David, i thought of the psalms, of when he prayed for his son to live, and much more. but the prayer we looked at came from the very end of his life.
it was a prayer that came after he and his leaders had given offerings to a fund that Solomon would use to build the temple (its in 1 Chronicles 29). pastor chris did a great job of explaining this and what the amount of money would look like in today's world (a total of $7.7 trillion!). the focus then was on how these people reshaped their world view to a God-centered and not self-centered view that was reflected in prayer, in their life style, in their giving.
in the midst of support raising, it was encouraging and a good reminder of things i learned in training. that people really do need to give more than i need to receive. that none of this is mine, but it is all the Lord's and he is not a poor God, even if our economy is in a recession. our church participated in advent conspiracy (see my Christmas post for more info on that) and in that special offering, our church gave $180,000 dollars. not only that, but we reduced our budget deficit by a ridiculous amount (i can't remember the exact amount now). but in a time when the economy is slow, jobs are questionable & budgets are tight, our church was able to give more in a month than was ever expected or imagined. that was a good encouragement to me.
God is not hurting for money. he is still in control and he is the one who can raise my support.

Hi Mirada!
I just checked in on your blog from Daniel and Jess's blog (getting the latest update and seeing the cute photos of Sam:) -and enjoyed scrolling down and seeing all the things you've been up to.
And I loved your Christmas pictures:)
I didn't realize that your mom had been battling cancer... I will add her to my prayers.
I remember when the after Christmas Minnesota trip was an every year event for Daniel and Ben:) Great pics! I think that Daniel was led to follow the Lord's calling to his year long mission trip at one.
I am so thankful for the growth and Christian fellowship that our sons got at Whitewater Crusde,
including Tim.
You are welcome to come by and visit my blog anytime:)
Blessings,
Linda Collier
