summer break

well...it's been a while since i have posted. things got a little busy this summer. for a brief recap of my time at new staff training, here are a few pictures to help you get an idea some of what happened during my 5 weeks in florida....

first off, i got to meet vonette bright! super cool. vonette and her husband bill are the ones who started campus crusade way back in 1951. she was such a sweetheart and it was so encouraging to hear her heart for us and for the world.

we also got to go on a tour of crusade's headquarters at Lake Hart. this was one of my favorite days. it was fun to see the whole picture of crusade, the behind the scenes stuff of how the checks get processed, the way we are using the internet to share the Gospel across the world, the way the Jesus film is translated into thousands of different languages, and much more. below is a few of my friends and i playing on the lawn at headquarters. :)

one of the absolute highlights of my time at training this summer was the relationships that were developed and deepened. jena, sarah, erin and i all interned the past year at different schools in our region and so we knew each other, but this summer i really got to know these girls and i loved every minute of it. living in a dorm again was so fun because of these girls and the conversations and dance parties that occurred in our rooms!

it was quite an adventure to figure out how we were going to find out our new placement, but our letters were finally found and i got to rip open my letter surrounded by my friends to confirm what i already expected...that i am heading to oshkosh! sarah and i put our letters on our door so we would be reminded every time we walked out where God was leading us next.

strange to think that 4 years ago, i was at myrtle beach, south carolina, experiencing one of the most stretching and fun summers in my walk with the Lord. this summer was another time of extreme growth in my relationship with the Lord and i was still blessed to see one of my friends from myrtle beach summer project! liz is on staff at alabama now, but was able to stop by and visit one day. i love summer project friends!

one of the churches in the orlando area brought in one of our favorite music groups for a free outdoor concert. shane & shane played one sunday evening and we were able to take a study break before our big theology final to go and worship the Lord with them. so fun. they even played my favorite song "yearn"!

to give us a break from the classes and seminars, intermural sport leagues were formed for the summer and a few of the guys from our region formed a basketball team and made it to the championship. the rest of us wanted to be supportive so a few of us girls made signs and we went ready to cheer and support our team! it was a great game, so close to the very end, but our guys were able to pull it out and win the championship!

how could you spend 5 weeks in orlando and not go to disney world?! erin and i spent a saturday at magic kingdom and had a blast meeting characters, riding the rides, and just spending time together. we may have been just as excited (or maybe a little bit more) than some of the kids there as you can maybe tell by our picture below. we decided to spice the picture up and told pluto to make a funny face. of course he is wearing a costume and can't change his face so he just held up his ears! so funny.

a trip to florida would also not be complete without spending some time at the ocean. of course since it was florida in the summer it rained almost every day at some point and so a few times we got rained off the beach, but this time we waited it out to at least get a picture at daytona beach!

of course the summer wasn't all fun in the sun, we did spend a lot of time in class and in seminars, but who wants to take pictures of that?! but those classes and our dorm were all at rollins college, which has a beautiful campus. below is the cafeteria and library.

another highlight from the summer was our life groups. we were put into groups that we met in every week to get to know one another, to check in with each other and share how we were doing in the midst of the craziness of new staff training. i loved my group and we had a great time together!

here is everyone from our region at our final commissioning ceremony. what a fun and amazing group!

it was a great summer and i'm so thankful i was able to go. now i'm in the midst of ministry partner development which is a whole other adventure in and of itself. but you'll hear more of that soon i'm sure...
