it was a beautiful day on saturday and so after we went to the farmers market and then finished eating our spicy cheese bread while we watched a few episodes of alias. then it was off on our letterboxing adventure!
it was fun finding the first 2 letterboxes, because we found my brother's stamp still in the notebook! it was also cool because we got to see some areas of madison that i've never been to before. like the giant community garden below. who knew this existed?
holly thought it looked like something from the grapes of wrath. but i bet it will look a little cooler once everyone has gotten some things planted and they start to grow. that makes me think of how our friend shanti had a great gatsby party last summer and we joked about other classic novels could be made into themes for parties too. like the grapes of wrath. we would cover the floor in dirt. everyone would come in barefeet and raggedy clothes. and we would have moldy fruit for refreshments. hehe. shanti wasn't sold on that one.
holly also seems to think that letterboxing is just an excuse for me to take pictures. i think of it more as a fortunate side effect. why not bring my camera when God makes so many cool things?
plus flowers are just easier to take pictures of than people!
one of the new letterboxes was hidden at a children's park. it was seriously one of the coolest parks i've ever been too! it was down in a little valley and had lots of big trees to climb on, a little rock gorge and this drain area. pluse lots of trees and flowers and a swing set. it even had piles of stuff with a sign next to it that said "fort building supplies!" how cool is that?! it made me want to be 8 again so my brothers and i could build a fort again and come up with some crazy adventure.
holly found this robin's egg. isn't it amazing how God makes the coolest colors on some of the simplest things?
seriously, you should all start letterboxing.
