its been an interesting week. you may be wondering why i chose to include a picture of a pig in this post. well, you will understand when i tell you about this past week.
last week tuesday, i got a call from the mom that i baby-sit for. she wasn't feeling well and wasn't going in to work that day, but wondered if i could still come over and baby-sit. i said i could and so i went over a little later than usual and stayed later than usual so that i could help with dinner and baths. it was actually a fun day. the kids and i had fun playing outside, grace made sure i sat next to her at dinner, and i got to experience bath time. yes, i got a little wet in the process.
the next day, before i went over to baby-sit, i got another call from the mom. she had gone into work that day. she was feeling much better, but when she got into work, they all got called into a staff meeting where it was announced that one of their co-workers had a confirmed case of, yup, you guessed it, the swine flu. so, she was home again, and going in to the doctor to get tested. and, of course, she didn't want me to come over that day. ;) so i spent the afternoon cleaning our apartment.
erin, the mom, called that night to let me know that the test had come back negative at the doctor's office. i don't usually baby-sit on thursday or friday, so i had the rest of the week off anyways. on saturday, erin called again. the test had actually now come back as positive for swine flu and now dan, the dad, and both kids had it. and not just that, but grace had pneumonia too. wow. with everyone now sick, i wouldn't be able to go over there to baby-sit for at least a week, until everyone was better again. and as long as i didn't develop any symptoms by tuesday, i was in the clear.
with my schedule being suddenly open, i decided to go home for mother's day and stayed a couple extra days to hang out with my mom while my dad was on a business trip. on monday, i called to see how the family was feeling, and found out that erin was now in labor! her husband was not allowed in the hospital since he had swine flu, and so her mom had to come down to be the one to go to the hospital with her! isaac logan was born that afternoon, healthy and beautiful, and erin was doing fine. dan & the kids were only able to meet isaac via video chat though! they didn't get to actually see erin & the baby until thursday, when everyone was feeling better again! crazy!
so while the swine flu dominates the news & many jokes these days, it becomes a little crazier when it actually becomes a part of your life! no need to fear, i never developed any symptoms so i'm fine and the family is all better and i get to go meet the new baby soon!
